How I earn hundreds of dollars in cash and gift cards using Swagbucks.
If you’ve stumbled across this article you’ve probably already heard of Swagbucks but you have questions you need answered.
Is Swagbucks legit and safe to use?
Can I actually earn money with Swagbucks?
Is Swagbucks worth it or a waste of time?
In this super-detailed Swagbucks review, I’m going to answer all of your questions about Swagbucks and I’ll also share some Swagbucks hacks that will help you earn as many rewards as possible.
Let’s get started!
What Is Swagbucks?
Swagbucks is one of the web’s most popular rewards programs that gives you cash and free gift cards for doing everyday things you were already doing anyway.
You earn points for doing things like taking online surveys, watching movie trailers, playing games, and shopping online. Then you trade those points for gift cards at various retailers or get cash back from Paypal.
As of this writing, Swagbucks has already paid out over $310 million in rewards.

Is Swagbucks Legit?
In a word: yes.
But I can do a lot better than a one word answer. The truth is I know for a fact that Swagbucks is legit because I’ve used the site myself for several years.
In that time, I’ve earned many hundreds of dollars in cash and gift cards. I’ve never had my identity stolen or had any kind of bad experience at all with their site. I give it two thumbs up.
They have an A rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and their parent company (Prodege) has been in business for 13 years.
Swagbucks is one hundred percent legitimate.
Who Can Join Swagbucks?
You have to be age 13 or older to join Swagbucks, at least in the United States and Canada.
Some other countries have a higher age requirement (for example, you need to be at least 16 to join Swagbucks if you live in Australia or the United Kingdom).
The young age requirement makes Swagbucks a great option for teens to make money online.
They’re probably already online playing games and searching the web, they might as well get paid to do it!

How Does Swagbucks Work?
Ok, here is the section where you actually learn how to make money with Swagbucks!
Making money with Swagbucks is very simple.
Basically, you complete simple tasks like watching videos or searching the internet and as you do you earn rewards points called “Swagbucks,” or SB for short.
Each SB is equal to about a penny and when you collect enough points you can trade them in for gift cards to your favorite retailers or for cash via Paypal.
You can also have the option of donating them to a charitable cause.
Now, let’s talk about the many ways you can earn those Swagbucks!
I’ll warn you now, there are so many ways to earn money with Swagbucks that this section is a little long.
If you want to skip it and just sign up already, click the link below.

How to Make Money With Swagbucks Surveys
Paid online surveys are one of my favorite ways to earn extra money. They’re just so easy.
I like to take paid online surveys while:
- Watching TV on the couch in my pajamas
- In the car waiting for my daughter’s soccer practice to end
- Sitting in the doctor’s office
- Any time I have five or ten minutes to spare
When you join Swagbucks you’ll enter some generic demographic information about yourself and your household (age, family income, hobbies and interests, etc.).
Then Swagbucks matches you up with surveys with rewards ranging from 1 to 1,000 SBs.
Generally, the longer the survey the higher the reward but that’s not always the case. Sometimes even short surveys can earn big rewards.
Earn Cash Back With Swagbucks
If you do any shopping online, Swagbucks will help you earn cash back on your purchases.
Just sign into your Swagbucks account and click on the retailer you want to shop with.
Then, just do your normal shopping and within a few days to a few weeks y, our account will be credited with SB.
Swagbucks offers cash back from thousands of stores including Amazon, Target, Walmart, Groupon, Macys, Kohls, Old Navy, Home Depot, Etsy, and many, many more.
The cash back percentage varies from store to store and usually range from one to ten percent.
But sometimes they have really amazing cash back offers. I recently sent a coworker flowers after she had a baby and I earned 1500 SB on an $85 purchase!
One of the easiest ways to make money on Swagbucks is by watching short videos in various categories including entertainment, sports, health, personal finance, food, and more.
They don’t pay much, but it does add up if you do it long enough.
Now, I’m not expecting you to sit glued to your screen watching videos for a few pennies. There are better ways to spend your time.
The secret is to multitask while you are streaming the videos. You won’t be tested on the content of the videos so you don’t have to pay too close attention.
Instead, play some videos while you’re washing dishes or getting dinner ready. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can earn some free Amazon gift cards doing this!
You most likely found this article by searching for information about Swagbucks on the Internet.
Am I right?
Well, wouldn’t it be cool if you could actually get paid just for searching the web?
I have good news my friend. Swagbucks Search will let you do just that.
Swagbucks Search is powered by Yahoo, so you know the results are pretty solid. And it is pretty sweet to get paid to do something you would do anyway.
The only problem is you never know which search is going to earn you money.
No one seems to know exactly how they determine how much you earn with searches.
You’ll get nothing for most searches and then you’ll get SB for other searches.
It’s all a bit mysterious.
And while I’ve seen people trying to figure out which Swagbucks search words to earn points, I haven’t seen any pattern at all.
The best way to earn more is simply to search more.
If you want to maximize your chance of earning the most SB possible, just make Swagbucks your default search engine so every search has potential rewards.
If you have a few minutes to spare and surveys aren’t your thing, you can earn money by playing games on Swagbucks.
There are several dozen games to choose from but I’ll warn you that most of them require to pay in order to earn SB.
If you want to play them anyway then I guess it makes sense, but I don’t use any of the paid options.
Luckily, there are 3 games where you can earn SB for free:
- Swagasaurus Run
- Swag Jump
- Swag Memory
Earn Swagbucks With Printable Coupons
The Swagbucks Coupons section has tons of printable coupons that you can bring to the supermarket.
Not only do you save the face value of the coupon, you’ll also earn 25 SB for each coupon redeemed.
That’s a double win!
The Discover Deals section of Swagbucks has contains an amazing number of ways to earn money. It’s chock full of offers that provide cash back when you try them out.
You can earn 50 SB just for joining Kellogg’s rewards program. Or you can earn up to 3,500 SB ($35) for trying out Dollar Shave Club.
Take a few minutes to scroll through the Discover Deals and I guarantee you’ll find a free cash back offer that interested you.
Buy Gift Cards
Buy a gift card through Swagbucks and you’ll receive a percentage back. It’s that simple.
But here’s a trick that will really help you multiply your savings:
I needed to buy something at Home Depot that costs $100.
Rather than just buying what I need with cash, I bought a $100 Home Depot gift card on Swagbucks.
Then I linked over to Home Depot via the Swagbucks Shopping section and used the gift card to pay for my order.
In the end, I got 2% back by ordering the gift card and another 3% back by using the Swagbucks shopping portal.
If you know you need to make a purchase this Swagbucks hack will help you save some serious money.
When you refer a friend and get them to join Swagbucks you both get a 300 SB bonus, which is worth $3 to each of you.
But that’s not the best part.
You’ll also earn 10% of all their earnings…for life.
If your friend earns 500 SB, you get 50 SB.
If they earn 5,000, you get 500.
Get just a few friends to join and you can earn some serious bonuses month after month.
Swago is like an online game of bingo where you fill in spaces on your board by completing tasks such as visiting a merchant’s site, earnings SB from a search, and liking Swagbucks on Facebook.
As you fill up your Swago board you’ll be able to earn bonuses up to 300 SB.
How Swago Works:
- Each square on your Swago board has an associated activity. Complete that activity to mark off that square.
- You have a limited amount of time to mark off as many squares as possible.
- Be mindful of the patterns and their corresponding bonuses. The patterns will vary in difficulty and bonus value. Try to achieve the more difficult pattern in order to receive the highest bonus.
- Your patterns and their corresponding bonuses can be found to the right of your board. Once you’ve achieved a pattern the “submit” button will turn red. You can have multiple patterns available for submission. However, you can only submit one pattern.
If you use Google Chrome to surf the web you should install the SwagButton extension. It’s a neat little tool that runs in the background and alerts you whenever you visit a site that offers cash back.
Normally, to get cash back on purchases you’d have to go to Swagbuck first and then click through to whichever store you want to shop at.
But let’s say you’re doing some Christmas shopping and you open your browser to shop on the Kohls website but you forget to go through Swagbucks first.
If you don’t have the SwagButton you’re out of luck. But with it you’ll get a notification that Kohls offers cash back and you’ll be able to activate it before making your purchase.
Sometimes you’ll discover a cash back offer when you least expect it.
Swag Codes are short phrases or strings of text that you can enter on the site or through the Swagbucks mobile app to earn instant rewards.
They usually pop up a few times per day and they’re very difficult to find without the SwagButton which alerts you whenever a new Swag Code is released.
What Kind Of Swagbucks Rewards Can I Choose From?
Once you get a certain number of Swag Bucks in your account you’ll be able to cash them out. There are four different ways you can use your points:
- Receive a cash deposit to your PayPal account
- Choose a gift card from your favorite store
- Redeem your SB to enter sweepstakes for a shot at even bigger prizes
- Donate your points to charitable organizations
Each SB point is worth about a penny, so you’d need 2,500 SB to receive a $25 PayPal deposit.
It’s hard to argue with cash as a reward, but if you choose a gift card you might be able to get more for your SB.
Many of the gift cards are available at a discounted rate so you won’t need as many SB to get one.
For example, you’d only need 2,200 SB (instead of 2,500) for a $25 Amazon gift card. That’s a 12 percent discount and if you save $3 on each gift card you’ll be able to earn new ones that much faster.
I can’t list all of the gift card options on Swagbucks Rewards because it would take up half this page. But here are just some of the most popular gift cards you can choose from:
- Dunkin Donuts
- Bath and Body Works
- T.J. Maxx
- Home Depot
- Olive Garden
- Outback Steakhouse
- Bass Pro Shops
- And many more.
I don’t think I’ve ever used the Sweepstakes (or Swagstakes as they call it) option myself. They do have some neat prizes, like a $1,000 prize that only costs five SB to enter. But I prefer the guaranteed payout of cash or a gift card.
Finally, you can always donate your points to your favorite charity.
Pros And Cons Of Swagbucks
I’ve been using Swagbucks for years, and while it isn’t perfect it has a lot going for it. Here are some of the things I like and dislike about Swagbucks.
Pros of Swagbucks
- Swagbucks is 100 percent free to join. You can earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the site without ever paying a dime.
- There are so many ways to earn rewards.
- You actually get paid to do things you would have been doing anyway.
- Swagbucks is legit. They have been around for years and paid out over $310 million in rewards. They are definitely not a scam!
Cons of Swagbucks
- I wish I could accumulate points even faster than I do now.
- It will never be more than a side hustle. If you’re looking to replace your full time job, this isn’t going to do it.
In my opinion the pros far outweigh the cons, but only you can answer…
Is Swagbucks Worth Your Time?
As I mentioned throughout this article, there are numerous ways to earn points with Swagbucks. Even if you don’t want to take surveys or try out new products, you can still earn points by searching the web, watching videos, or shopping online.
There is something for everyone at Swagbucks.
But it all comes down to how you’re going to use the site.
If you’re a casual user who just wants to earn some extra money to pay for a tank of gas or a nice dinner out with your family, Swagbucks is perfect.
All you have to do is watch some videos in your spare time and maybe take a couple of surveys every once in a while.
Then there is what I call the Swagbucks Power User. They want to earn as many SB as possible and as quickly as possible.
They stream videos all day long, take every survey they can, and make sure to complete every possible task that will bring in even a few pennies.
If that’s what you want to do, more power to you. But I want to make sure you understand that Swagbucks is never going to make you rich.
Summary of Our Swagbucks Review
If you made it this far into our Swagbucks review, you’ve probably already guessed that I’m a fan of the site.
I’ve been a Swagbucks user for a couple of years now and I’ve earned hundreds of dollars in cash and gift cards. And that’s just being a casual user, I really don’t even try that hard to earn SB.
Now I want to be perfectly clear about this:
If you’re looking for an opportunity to quit your day job and replace your full time income, Swagbucks is not it.
But you can still earn a few hundred dollars per year with very little effort. That will go a long way toward Christmas presents or paying down your student loans.
Do yourself a favor and sign up for Swagbucks so you can start earning today.
